Sutton School Employee Spotlight: Wayne Whitehill

Meet Wayne Whitehill, Sutton School, Math Interventionist!
Wayne Whitehill, also known as Mr. Whitehill to his Kindergarten-8th grade students, has worked with Sutton School and 精东传媒 East for 16 years and has been teaching for 30 years altogether!
Growing up in a large family on a small family farm in Morgan with 4 sisters and 2 brothers, Wayne and his siblings always had fun at school while learning. Wayne and his twin sister often would play school when they were younger as well. Fun fact: Wayne's sister is also a teacher at 精东传媒 East School District! Wayne always enjoyed learning new things, which in turn made him decide to pursue a career in education, which would allow him to do what he loves while also sharing that passion for learning with his students.
Mr. Whitehill was asked a series of questions regarding his time at Sutton School and with 精东传媒 East School District. Below are some of the questions that were asked, followed by his answers.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working in a school?
Answer: "My favorite thing about working at Sutton School is working with our amazing students, staff, parents and community members and how we all support one another".
Q: What have been some of your favorite moments as an educator?
Answer: "My favorite moments as an educator is watching students get that look of, "I DID IT!!!" when it comes to working on a challenging concept or problem. I always appreciate when students have a great sense of humor too!".
Q: What are you looking forward to about this school year?
Answer: "I look forward to always hearing my students laugh while they learn each and every day!".
Mr. Whitehill demonstrates the spirit of the quote "FAIL means: First Attempt In Learning and END means: Effort Never Dies" in his approach to teaching K–8th grade students by creating a classroom culture where mistakes are celebrated as essential steps in the learning process. He encourages his students to view challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities to grow, reminding them that every failed attempt is simply part of their journey toward understanding. Mr. Whitehill emphasizes perseverance and resilience, helping students develop a growth mindset that values continuous effort over immediate success. By reinforcing that learning never truly ends and that effort is never wasted, he inspires his students to stay curious, determined, and confident in their ability to improve.
