Meet Kathy Faulkner,

Sutton School Elementary Educator & Classroom Teacher

Kathy Faulkner, also known as Mrs. Faulkner or "Mrs. F." to her Kindergarten, first, and second grade students, has worked at Sutton School for 25 years and has been working with the school district for 28 years, working at Burke Town School for 3 years prior to joining the team at Sutton. Before becoming an educator in the NEK, Kathy worked as a Petty Officer for the U.S. Navy. During her last couple years in active duty, Kathy worked in the training facilities teaching adults in technical school. That's when she knew teaching was her calling. After moving to Vermont to raise her children she set out to follow her dreams, and felt the place where she needed to be was in schools teaching students.

Mrs. Faulkner was asked a series of questions regarding her time at Sutton School. Below are some of the questions that were asked, followed by her answers.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working in a school?

Answer: "I love children! Young children are remarkably curious and open to learning. My motto: Follow Your Dreams! In many ways, teachers bring the possibilities of dreams to children by exposing them to our personal adventures/experiences, plus words, songs, places, questions, people from around the world, and even the power of doing hard work".

Q: What have been some of your favorite moments as an educator?

Answer: "My favorite moments as an educator have been when I observe situations when one student becomes a coach to a classmate. Not a boss, but a companion in learning. We want children to be responsible, cooperating and helpful. When a child takes the lesson or moral practice to heart, they can then translate it and/or share it with others. Realize the power that has to build a strong and kind citizen and community".

Q: What are you looking forward to about this school year?

Answer: "This year promises to be full of new learning for the second graders and myself in the areas of improving vocabulary in all of our subject areas. The school year flies by as we learn to write and read and to expand our math thinking and learning. If I could tell you one more thing, it is that our Read-Aloud books are a gift to me and to the students. Those hours together, with traditional books I have always read, plus the new ones we discover, are the memories of laughter and tears that I will hold dear for years and years. I hope the children will too".

Q: Do you have any additional information that you would like to include in your employee spotlight?

Answer:  "I love Sutton School and I love the Northeast ¾«¶«´«Ã½ of Vermont! It has been my personal blessing to be able to explore, grow, and live in both!"

Thank you, Mrs. Faulkner, for your service to our country, and your dedication to your students at Sutton School and the ¾«¶«´«Ã½ East School District!
