Under his administration, the Department of Education was established in 1979, emphasizing Carter's commitment to improving access to quality education for all Americans. Similarly, the Department of Energy was founded in response to the energy crises of the 1970s, with Carter prioritizing energy conservation and alternative energy solutions. Both departments reflected his forward-thinking approach to addressing key issues that would shape the future of the nation.

Post-presidency, President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, devoted themselves to humanitarian causes. Carter's humanitarian work, including his efforts with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, further exemplified his compassion and global vision for a more equitable world.

KESD schools will remain in session during the National Day of Mourning on January 9th, 2025, and classes may observe moments of silence or participate in discussions to honor President Carter.
